About the Role
Humans in Control is hiring our first Digital Video & Engagement Manager to help build our supporter base from the ground up.
This is a video-forward digital engagement role. We're looking for someone with strong instincts for short-form video: hooks, pacing, editing, platform norms, story selection, and what makes a clip feel human rather than institutional.
This is not a pure content role. The goal is to turn attention into action: signing up, attending events, contacting decision-makers, volunteering, donating, and recruiting others. Video is the front door; email, SMS, digital actions, and supporter follow-up are how people move from a first encounter with HIC into ongoing engagement.
Strong video skills are essential for this role. We're open to candidates whose deepest experience is in video and content, or in digital organizing and campaigns — what matters is real ability in both, with video as the foundation.
About Us
Humans in Control is a nonpartisan grassroots organization working to keep people — not a handful of AI companies — in charge of our future.
We bring together parents, workers, veterans, faith leaders, small business owners, neighbors, and community leaders from across the political spectrum around a basic principle: powerful AI shouldn't be built without rules, and the companies building it shouldn't be accountable only to themselves. This is one of the few issues where most Americans across the political spectrum already agree.
How the Role Will Evolve
Earlier in the role, the work will be heavily weighted toward video and acquisition. HIC has no supporter base today, so the priority is reaching people, capturing their interest, and getting them onto our list. Expect the bulk of the work to be video and social content, with the remainder focused on basic email/SMS follow-up, simple action campaigns, and list growth. As the supporter base grows, the role will rebalance toward conversion and mobilization: more sophisticated email and SMS programs, segmentation, action campaigns, and online-to-offline organizing. We are looking for someone who is genuinely strong at video today and excited to grow into the broader digital engagement work as the organization scales.
What You'll Do
Video and content (primary focus)
Produce and test short-form video and social content, including explainers, rapid-response clips, calls to action, event recaps, and community stories
Develop repeatable video formats that help people understand what is happening with AI and what they can do about it
Identify and develop on-camera voices from HIC's network — staff, volunteers, organizers, parents, veterans, faith leaders, small business owners, workers, and community leaders — and help them tell clear, effective stories
Run HIC's social presence across the platforms where our audiences are, likely including TikTok, Instagram, YouTube Shorts, Facebook, and X
Digital engagement and supporter growth
Build simple conversion paths from first touch to next action: video view or social post → list signup → email/SMS follow-up → event, call, volunteer ask, or donation
Draft and send email and SMS, and build digital action campaigns: petitions, event signups, call campaigns, volunteer recruitment pushes, shareable actions
Track what is working across channels and use results to improve content, targeting, and conversion
Coordination
Work with communications, field, distributed organizing, and operations so digital engagement supports campaign priorities
What We Are Looking For
3+ years of experience in short-form video, social media, digital engagement, content creation, digital organizing, advocacy communications, political campaigns, nonprofit communications, or a related field
Strong short-form video instincts: what makes people stop scrolling, trust the speaker, understand the point, and take a next step
Hands-on experience producing short-form video, including scripting, shooting, editing, captioning, publishing, and testing
Experience using digital channels to move people to action, not just build audience
Strong ability in at least one of these areas, and credible ability in the other: short-form video and social content that reaches and persuades people; or digital organizing, email/SMS, digital actions, supporter conversion, and campaign mobilization
Strong writing instincts for social, email, SMS, and action-oriented copy
Ability to make complex issues understandable, relatable, and actionable
Willingness to appear on camera when needed and comfort doing so
Good judgment communicating in a genuinely nonpartisan way with conservatives, moderates, independents, Democrats, Republicans, parents, workers, veterans, faith communities, rural communities, and politically mixed audiences
A bias toward testing, learning, and improving quickly rather than waiting for perfect certainty
Comfort with tools such as video editing software, social media platforms, CRMs, email platforms, texting tools, analytics tools, and landing pages
Serious interest in the public risks posed by advanced AI and the importance of keeping people in control of powerful systems
Ideal Candidates Bring
Experience growing an audience through short-form video or social content
Experience converting digital attention into signups, event turnout, calls, volunteer recruitment, donations, or other concrete action
Experience creating content for politically mixed, conservative, moderate, faith-based, parent, veteran, rural, working-class, or non-expert audiences
Experience identifying and developing volunteer or community-leader on-camera voices
Experience with online-to-offline organizing, event turnout, volunteer recruitment, or distributed actions
Experience in a small, fast-moving organization or campaign environment
Why This Role Matters at HIC
This is HIC's first digital hire. There is no playbook to inherit; you'll help build it. Most digital advocacy work is built for one half of the country. This one isn't. The principle we're organizing around — that powerful technology shouldn't be deployed on the public without rules — is one most Americans already share, regardless of how they vote. Success in this role is not measured mainly by views, likes, or follower counts. Success means helping HIC build a growing base of reachable people who understand the issue, trust the organization, and take action.
Reporting Structure
This role reports to the Communications Director. The Communications Director leads overall communications strategy, messaging, editorial standards, and approvals. The Digital Video & Engagement Manager owns weekly digital execution — producing, posting, drafting, sending, testing, and iterating within those editorial rails — and is responsible for helping turn digital attention into supporter growth and action.
Location
Remote, U.S.-based position. Must be authorized to work in the United States. Some evening and weekend availability may be required for rapid-response moments, major campaign pushes, live events, or time-sensitive digital opportunities. Occasional travel will be required and will be reimbursed.
Compensation
Salary range: $75,000–$95,000, based on experience.
Benefits include medical, dental, and vision coverage, paid time off, and a 401(k) plan.
Candidates should be prepared to share examples of short-form video, social media, digital content, email/SMS, digital campaign, audience-engagement, or organizing work.
